Have To. Get To. Snowy. Fifty

Every once in a while, I like to point you all in the direction of another blogger who has especially impacted me by something he or she has written.

One recent post from a favorite blogger, Michael Hyatt, has really stuck with me ever since I read it.  He simply said that his entire outlook of life changed when he started switching out one simple word for another.  Instead of  saying, “I have to . . .”   he started saying “I get to  . . .”

Reader’s Pictures (Part 2)

It Reader’s Pictures Time again!

I have so enjoyed seeing all the places, towns, and countries where you all live.  In fact, I have had so many people send photos, that I’m going to extend this another week so you can look forward to another edition next Tuesday. And that means if you had some photos you didn’t get a chance to send in, you still have time!

Surgery and Singing

Steve is in Charlotte right now, sitting in a waiting room with his dad while his mom undergoes a four-hour surgery on her back.

Vernie will be in the hospital for 3 or 4 days before coming home to recuperate.  I told her on the phone last night that she should really milk it and turn being a Queen for A Day into being a Queen for a Month.  She said that was her plan.   She also added that Ken was very good at not just meeting her needs but anticipating her needs so she knows she will  be in good hands with him as her nurse.

Cry Love

The woman across from me at Pizza Hut pounded the table for emphasis as she stated, “I firmly believe that if you raise your kids  properly and follow all the right rules, they will turn out the way they should.  I mean, look at my three kids.  They all turned out great!”

And I thought to myself, “Smug, much?”

Renewed. Re-Vowed. Refreshed.

Frank and Sheri  Hawley (Nathan’s parents-in-law) flew in from Florida  last Thursday to speak for the Marriage Retreat our church had put together.  They had never been to our house, so it was fun to welcome them to Manteo, and host them for dinner Thursday night.

Friday morning consisted of a frantic race with the clock since we were due at the church at 9 am to meet up with twenty other couples; however, one of the Hawley’s suitcases hadn’t made the flight to Norfolk with them so they were trying to get ready with only half of their belongings in hand.

Reader’s Pictures (Part 1)

It’s time for Reader’s Pictures!  The ones posted today are the first ones that came in; the rest will be featured next Tuesday.   Also, tonight I will put all the picture submitter’s names in a hat and Sarah will choose a winner whom we’ll announce tomorrow.  The winner of the drawing will receive a set of my my photo cards.

Let’s get started with the first set of submissions.  It has been great fun seeing where you live and reading what you love about those places.  Thanks to everyone who has sent something in.

Sickellaneous

Sorry there have been no posts for several days; I’ve been in bed sick.

Today was supposed to be the day to post the photos you sent featuring the places you live, but I haven’t been able to muster quite enough energy to get it all together.  Those pictures will be coming soon, though, along with all sorts of other good Smithellaneous stuff!

Thanks for your patience; now it’s back to bed I go.

The Plan That Was Almost Unraveled By A Shampoo Bottle

Our mystery guests have arrived from Florida!

Rev. Frank and Sheri Hawley are not only our dear friends but also the parents of our wonderful daughter-in- law, Meagan.  (Unfortunately, their arrival at the Norfolk airport did not coincide with the arrival of one of their two suitcases carrying most of their clothes and toiletries.  Yikes. )

Since we will be leaving in a few moments for a marriage retreat that they are speaking at, I am pulling out a favorite post from the archives to share today.   It’s especially fun to read this in light of the fact that the  particular boyfriend and girlfriend mentioned in this story really did get married!

Wedding Wednesday: The Suit Coat Bedecked Bride

Last week’s edition of Wedding Wednesday had us at Jennettes Pier which is where we’ll pick up again this week.

After we had meandered around in the December chill for about a half hour (snapping pictures all the while), we finally decided it was time to call it a day.

As Nathan and Meagan headed back toward the gift shop leading out to the parking lot, I ran along behind them like the rabid mamarazzi that I am.

Snowy Rocks The Rabbit Ears

I realize that Valentine’s Day is supposed to be all about romance but I’m glad that it’s a holiday where chocolate can also be legally slid into the mix. If you’ve been hanging around this blog for any time at all, you know that I am a big time chocolate lover, as are many of my readers.

With that in mind, Sue G, a cyber friend and commenter par excellence sent me some interesting facts about chocolate.
