Wedding Wednesday: The Restaurant Edition

On Nathan and Meagan’s first visit home after he proposed, the four of us went out to lunch at a local restaurant to have our first of many conversations about The Big Wedding Plans. As a result, when we were in photo mode during their recent visit, Meagan wanted to have some shots taken back at that same restaurant.

Unfortunately, when we pulled up in front of the Full Moon Cafe, the first thing we saw was a Closed sign on the door. But the second thing we saw? Two people approaching the door with a key.

So Nathan did the gallantly groomly thing and hopped out of the car to explain the situation to the couple and ask if we could go inside briefly to take a few pictures. In hospitable Manteo style they said, “Certainly!”

So off we went.

I realize this one is a bit fuzzy but I just love the sense of joy coming from it.

Since the owners were busy doing other stuff and didn’t seem to mind us being in there, we moved the Royal Bridal Couple from the eating side of the restaurant to the bar area so that we could have a different backdrop.

Nathan was, as always, in fine form.

Once they got settled in the new spot, he launched into a routine where he was pretending to “pick up” Meagan.

Looks like he’s getting a pretty good response from her!

Yep. I think she likes him!

After the drama of the guy getting the girl was over, it was time to head out for yet another restaurant.

Since Darryl’s is where Meagan had taken me to lunch specifically to ask me to write a song for their wedding, she wanted a picture there, too. (Believe me, we were giving the Manteo-ers a lot to look at on that particular day.)

In closing, here are a few pictures Sarah took that I especially loved.

Angela, I don’t know what to tell you about that. I suppose you could try deleting my link and re-adding it; since the blog was transferred from Blogger to WordPress, you may need to refresh the link to get it to work again. If that doesn’t work, then my technical knowledge bucket is empty!

Love, love the wedding post – I know they will have to come to and end at some point but I certainly will be sad to see them go…..HOWEVER, maybe by that time we will be having posts about a new addition to the Smithes…..I’m just sayin’…….They are such a beautifully happy couple – what a blessing to them and to all of you.

I was going to ask the same question. Her flowers were beautiful and I am so surprised they were fake. They look amazingly real. Becky, I know you are so happy they are married but do you ever worry about them because they are so young and not settled in careers yet. My children are only 9 and 12 so I have no idea how I will feel when they are grown but when you speak about Nathan being at Chick-Fil-A and possibly grad school I wonder how they afford benefits, rent…………….Please don’t misunderstand, they are a beautiful couple and I wish them all the best, I was just curious about this.

Anonymous, yes I certainly agree that we mothers can do some worrying, no matter what ages our kids are; I think worrying is in our job description!

And yes, Steve and I have normal parental concerns over Nathan and Meagan’s finances, job, schooling, etc, just like our parents had concerns over Steve and me when we got married. (I was a mere nineteen years old when I became Mrs. Smithellaneous.)

But I am reassured by two things: Nathan and Meagan are both wise about money and conservative in their spending habits and they both have strong work ethics. For those of us who have been married at least a couple decades, we can probably look back at our meager, newlywed beginnings and wonder how in the world we ever survived. But we did! And so will they. And I can’t wait to hear the stories they’ll have to tell along the way!

(And yes, I agree that Meagan’s fake flowers looked so real and were gorgeous. Her dad did such a fabulous job on them!)

I really learn alot from your blog. You are a few years ahead of me with your children even though you and I are only a few years apart. I read your blog and it teaches me to accept every day as a gift and not to be so Type A-worry wort.

I look at you and think you have been an amazing mother and so unconditionally supportive. Your children seem to get how great you have been and I always remind myself of this when I want to criticize or tell them how to do things.

In every photo taken of Nathan and Meghan, both individually and together over the many years they have known each other, the one thing that jumps off the page is how happy these two people are…with life, in themselves, in each other. To thing that each was raised to believe in “happy” is such a joy. So many young people today have such skewed views of the world and of their own opportunities that they don’t know how to be happy. That is NOT the case with this wonderful couple. I am so glad they found each other and let themselves love each other. Can’t wait to see what wonderful things God has in store for their life together.

Now, all that said, what is going on with them? Jobs? More schooling? What is in their immediate future…and what do we need to be asking for in prayer?

Sue, your words are so sweet about the joy between Nathan and Meagan. It is definitely true.

As for prayer–Meagan needs a job and Nathan needs a (much) better job. He did get a promotion at Chick-Fil-A (which means he wears a shirt and tie rather a uniform) but he needs to find something more in line with his career goals and with better pay.

Yes, they both want to go back to school but are trying to work out the complexities of all that. Thanks for asking and taking the time to care.
